Summary

An administrator may need to upgrade the Guest OS on the VM where the Zerto Virtual Manager (ZVM) is installed.  This article outlines the best practices for doing so.

Steps

  • There is no need to stop replication during the OS upgrade however, no new checkpoints are created while the OS is being upgraded.
  • It is recommended to increase the configured Journal History to cover the time of the upgrade.
  • While a ZVM's Guest OS is upgraded, the system will not detect environmental changes such as vMotion, disk resizes, disk added to VMs, and so forth.  While environmental changes will not be detected during the upgrade, the system will pick them up when the ZVM is started on the newly-upgraded OS.
  • While a recovery ZVM's Guest OS is upgraded, recovery is not possible until the upgrade is complete.
