Symptoms:

When a VPG is protecting Linux VMs, the alert "VPGs {vpg_names} include VMs running Windows 2003 operating system. These VMs drop their domains since guest customization is enabled." is seen.

Cause:

The protected VM is a Linux, however in vCenter, these VMs are configured as Windows 2003.

Solution:

Change the protected VM settings:

  • In the vSphere VM inventory, right-click on the virtual machine and select "Edit Settings".
  • When the Virtual Machine Properties dialog appears, click the "VM Options" tab.
  • Click on "General Options" to expand this section.
  • Change "Guest OS" to Linux, and "Guest OS Version" to the appropriate distribution and version of Linux being used. Click OK.
