Summary
This article covers the main points that need to be considered if you want to migrate the hardware of the BLM Archiver.

Details

1. The following assumptions are made:
    o All storage is in remote locations, meaning no changes need to be made to the storage locations                 (staging or consolidated);
    o The BLM Archiver database is on a remote server, meaning no changes need to be made to the                     database.

2. Backup (dump) the BLM Archiver database using the corresponding PostgreSQL utility.

3. Set up the new hardware for the BLM Archiver. Choose the same platform (Windows or Linux) as the one currently used.
    o For instructions, refer to the BLM Archiver section in the Server Software Installation Guide.
    o Run the installation program.
    o Specify the existing remote database.
    o Specify the existing remote storage locations (staging and consolidated).
4. If you can use the same IP address on the new BLM machine (as was used on the previous machine), you should be able to start the BLM Archiver service / daemon and continue normal operations. The change will be transparent to all the DS-Systems and DS-NOCs.
    o If you must change the IP address on the new machine, you must respecify it in every DS-System that         points to the BLM Archiver (DS-Operator GUI > BLM menu > Status: IP/DNS box).

Other migration options:
You can keep the old BLM Archiver machine as a remote database / storage location. On the new BLM Archiver, you can point to the old database / storage location(s). This configuration will require a new IP address for the new BLM Archiver machine.
If BLM has multiple storage locations then the new BLM Archiver installation must have matching multiple storage locations. They must be accessible through the same paths as for the old BLM Archiver for both staging and consolidated storage locations.
If the BLM Archiver database is local and you want the new BLM Archiver to have that same configuration, you must dump the DB, and restore it to the new machine.
If the BLM storage (staging and/or consolidated) is local and you want the new BLM Archiver to have that same configuration, you must copy that data from the old location to the new location.
