Issue

DS-Client Database Migration Tool Usage

Summary

1. There are two scenarios:
1.1. Migrate DB on the same machine (Source and Destination on the same server), see items 2 to 6 below;
1.2. Migrate DB on another machine (Source and Destination on different servers), see item 7 below;

2. The First scenario:
2.1. Install PostgreSQL server on the Destination machine;
2.2 .Uninstall the Source Windows DS-Client v.13.3 with MS SQL DB saving;
2.3. Install the Windows DS-Client v.13.3 with PostgreSQL database as the Destination DS-Client;
2.4. Put the Asigra DS-Client Database Migration Tool to the Source machine;
2.5. Run Asigra DS-Client database Migration Tool as Administrator on the current machine;
3. In Asigra DS-Client Database Migration Tool:
- in Source Database area
3.1. Fill in Server line with host and instance names: i.e. "HOST-DB\SQL-DB";
3.2. Fill in User name and Password fills if the DB Admin account is different from Local System account, if it is the same, leave it empty;
- in Destination Database area
3.3. Fill in Server line as localhost;
3.4. Fill in User Name and Passwords fields.
4. Press OK button;
5. The Data Migration panel should automatically show "dsclient" database name "Source Database" and "Destination Database" fields. That means the Tool found both databases and is ready to run;
6. Press "Start" button, the process will start and show something in "Status:" field (i.e. "Dropping" or "Done"). As well, show progress line in "Total" field;

The window below will show tables which are converted and their status. Some lines will have some errors (i.e. Invalid object name and etc.), that means that "trace_xe_action_map" is not DS-Client DB record, it is MS-SQL add for monitoring purposes, it can be skiped. Now the Engineers are working on these errors to filter them out.

7. The Second scenario, (with creating a different DB server):
7.1. Install PostgreSQL server on the Destination machine;
7.2. Install the Windows DS-Client v.13.3 with PostgreSQL database as the Destination DS-Client;
7.3. Configure "C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.6\data\pg_hba.conf" file and "host" file on the Destination machine (where PostgreSQL is located). In the config files you have to configure DB and Server name location accordingly;
7.4. Follow p.p. 2.3. - 3.2. above;
7.5. Fill in Server name for PostgreSQL as is put in "host" file;
7.6. Fill in User Name and Passwords fields;
7.7. Follow p.p. 4. - 6. above.
